Left wing of a diptych: The Coronation of the Virgin
Cologne, mid-14th century
Ivory, traces of polychrome
13,6 × 6 cm
Provenance
Emile Lévy collection (his sale Paris, 1928); Max Silberberg collection (Breslau).
In 1935, the Silberberg family was forced to leave the Breslau mansion requisitioned by the NSDAP security service. Max Silberberg was also forced to part with most of his works of art during several forced sales held in 1935 and 1936 at the Paul Graupe auction house in Berlin. This ivory was the subject of an amicable agreement with the beneficiaries of the Silberberg family in 2014.
